Microneedling

To make the most out of your upcoming microneedling treatment, please follow our treatment instructions.

We cannot treat if: pregnant, nursing, or currently using Accutane.

Please avoid and call us if:

  • Any topical hydroquinone, retinol, or exfoliating acids used within the last 3-7 days.

  • Significant event (i.e. wedding, photo shoot) within two weeks after treatment as it can take up to two weeks for redness, dryness, or bruising to subside

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  • STOP hydroquinone, retinol, and exfoliating acids at least 3 days prior to treatment.

  • If you suffer from cold sores/fever blister – take Valtrex 3 days prior to treatment to prevent an outbreak. Please reach out to your PCP if you need this prescribed for you.

  • You may purchase the Alastin Procedure Enhancement System and pre-treat the skin with Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar 1 week before your microneedling treatment to help reduce redness and irritation after your procedure.

  • Please come to your appointment with no make-up or skincare on.

Treatment Expectations:

  • Immediately after you will be red and flushed, similar to a sunburn. This is expected and should resolve in 3-5 days.

  • Your skin may be swollen, dry, and tight, with slight flaking. This is normal and should resolve within 3-7days. DO NOT physically peel any skin off as this can cause scarring and/or hyperpigmentation that can be permanent.

  • Your skin is usually fully healed by day 7

  • Usually, best results are seen with a series of 3-4 treatments, depending on each patient’s skin quality and goals. For certain treatments such as acne scarring, it is typical to expect to have a series of 6-8 treatments for best results. This will be discussed with your provider at your visits and will vary for each patient.

  • Skin improvement may be seen as early as after the first treatment and will continue to improve with subsequent treatments.

Post-Treatment General Care

  • Once you leave the office, you do not have to do anything to the treatment area. Try to keep the area clean by avoiding touching your hands or clothing directly to the area.

  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and avoid direct sun exposure during this time.

  • Do not exercise for 24-48 hours

  • Do not apply any makeup for 24 hours.

  • Anti-inflammatory medications (such as Benadryl) may be taken before bed the evening after treatment

  • Avoid exfoliating face washes and products such as scrubs, Clarisonic, retinol, Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic, Malic Acid, Salicylic), enzyme Peels, or microdermabrasion for 10-14 days post-procedure.

  • You may gently re-apply Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar and/or hyaluronic acid to the area with clean hands as needed to help with dryness.

  • For male patients, we recommend not to shave for a week after treatment.
